A Quilt For Blake

1st May, 2012

My latest quilt is for one Miss Blake Quinn Robinson, born in New Jersey and niece to a very good friend of mine from university.  On Friday this quilt will be winging it’s way to Blake packed safely in to Grandma’s suitcase and will hopefully be as well received as Granny is bound to be!

I actually love it when friends ask me to make things on their behalf because despite the lovely discount they get they also give me free reign over the colour and design.  I wanted dusty purple and grey with a vintage floral print and some additional lace…and well, I guess that’s what I got!  I love the combination and think they work perfectly together.

I quilted it with a straight stitch either side of the patchwork seams and also with the lettering of her name.  Because we included her whole name, I didn’t want to use a dramatically contrasting fabric and have it be all you see and distract from the patchwork or lace detail sewn in to the odd seam.  Instead I kept it in tune with the tones I’d used and  made it subtle.

Welcome to the world Blake Quinn Robinson!  See the gallery HERE for more quilt creations.
