A very dear friend of mine is known simply as ‘Shoe’. His full and proper name is Adam Shoemark but since we worked together about six years ago, he has been affectionately known as Shoeman, The Shoe, Shoey etc etc.
From this name comes a long list of photo opportunities, play on word jokes and interesting handmade options for his 30th birthday gift. You see, a week ago, Shoey turned 30 and I wanted to make him something special, something unique, and something that suited his name.
Who knew that Nike released the first wear test of their Air Force 1 shoe in 1982? I did not, but after a little research I do now. How fortunate that a chap with such a distinctive name had such an iconic shoe launched in the year of his birth.

That there is a shoe from 1982. And this here is a stitched shoe from 2012.
I used three neutral fabrics…and my free hand text embroidery could use some work but all in all it was a job well done I think! I put it in a frame and said, here’s a shoe Shoe! Happy Birthday! Bit odd to some but he seemed to like it.
