My cousin and his wife have a beautiful little boy called Henry who turned one a couple of weeks ago. Henry is such a special little boy…after suffering the heartache of losing a child before carrying him full term, Henry’s arrival was a delightful ray of sunshine in his parents lives.
When his birthday came round I wanted to be sure I made him something special to mark the occasion and something he or his parents could keep forever.
I know that his Mom, Anna, liked a fabric collage I did a while back as a wedding gift so I figured this was a good starting place. Here is what I came up with:
The centre piece of Henry’s collage is a crown…this is because the family refer to him as ‘His Henryship’ which made it fitting to pay tribute to his affectionate nickname and have it be the starting point. I always try and start with one piece of inspiration and work around it.
I included his initials, his date of birth, the date of his first birthday, the big ‘number 1′ and also his parents initials either side of the layout. I sewed the whole thing through three layers of cotton to add some weight to it. I find it pulls the fabric less and also means it sits better when framing.
The heart is a loving touch to a little boy who will never be forgotten and whose name is now a part of Henry’s. Lots of love to the whole family and Happy 1st Birthday Henry. xxx
