An old friend from college got in touch via facebook last week with a request for a bespoke bridesmaid dress. I’d just like to remind you at this point that I have in fact only made one to date and am still lacking in confidence with regards to my talents in making clothes for other people. Why then I said yes when she told me she needed it in ten days is completely beyond me! It may have been because she’d been let down elsewhere and could also have had something to do with the fact that she asked so nicely. Either way I’m all for a challenge but when I hit a wall at 11am this morning and the tears started I was beginning to think I may have bitten off more than I could chew.
I took a step back, had a brew, inhaled some deep (and slightly panicked) breaths and took the plunge. I did the drastic cut I knew I had to but didn’t want to in case it all went tits up. Never underestimate a good cup of tea!
At 4pm this afternoon said friend collected the dress, skipped about in it with a big grin on her face and went home thrilled and excited about this weekends wedding.
I do love a happy ending…
The lining and skirt is a soft light cotton with a silk overlay on the bodice. The skirt is chiffon as are the sleeves…and I learned a lot from the whole experience!
